Opportunity Quilts for C.A.R.E

biped...."On Saturday (Halloween night) the C.A.R.E animal shelter was broken into and their green papers (money) were stolen. I want to give you a little information about this shelter. I've met several of the members while shopping at Petsmart in Springfield. They bring their kitties and woofies there to find homes. They also (since last spring) have a store front that is next to their fund raising thrift shop. The theft of their green papers is really really sad because of the animals they rescue. They take animals that are on death row at the local animal shelter. They take the sick, the old and the hard to place animals that require lots of expensive medical care. For example, last spring someone threw two woofies off a seventy(ish) foot high overpass. One of them died on impact but the other one was turned over to CARE. Without an organization like them the severely injured dog would have been euthanized.

As you know I made the Christmas Quilt as a fund raiser so I've decided to donate it to help raise green papers for CARE.

You can read a description of the quilt on my Angel Kitty Quilt blog

Not wanting to be called biased towards kitties, I am also donating a woofie quilt that I made. It isn't an original design like the kitty one but it is quite cute. You can read about the quilt >here.

In order to have your name entered in the drawing we ask that you make a donation to CARE on their website and either email me (garden_angel@centurytel.net) or leave a message in "comments" that you've donated. There is no required donation to have your name entered in the drawing and the fund raiser will end at noon (central time) on Nov. 28th.
I have let CARE know that I'm donating the quilts and this is the response that I got from the president.

Hello:
I am president of C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue and we are just overwhelmed with your kindness. Yes, of course, we would love for you to use your beautiful quilt as a fundraiser for our organization! It is gorgeous!

As you know, we rescue a lot of cats from Springfield Animal Control (the animal pound) - cats and dogs brought to the Animal Control Shelter have 5 days to be claimed by their owners or tagged for rescue. After that time, they are euthanized. It is very sad.

We are shocked and devastated by the robbery at our Adoption Center. The irony of it is that we did 10 adoptions that day! We rarely, if ever, have done that number before--we also had the receipts from our thrift store (C.A.R.E.'s Closet) next door and had had an unbelievable day there too. We always deposit our money regularly--but for some reason did not do it Halloween night.

So again, thank you so much for your generosity to our homeless cats AND dogs--we really appreciate YOU!

Those quilts are lovely. It is despicable that someone would break into the shelter to steal the green papers.

This is so nice of you! I just wandered over from the House of Mostly Black Cats.

How long are you holding your fundraiser for? I will definitely give some green papers to them (who wouldn't -- such a sad story!), but have to wait until pay day on Friday.

I hope they raise all the money back they lost!

There is no money amount required to have your name in the drawing. The way things are going for some, one dollar can be as big a donation as ten.

I think that we'll name the winner the weekend after Thanksgiving. That way I can get them in the mail that next Monday.

That's really sad how someone would rob an animal shelter or any other group that serves the community :(. We hope the fundraiser goes well.

That is such a wonderful thing you are doing to help the shelter recoup some of it's losses. When you think you've heard it all, something so terrible as this happens. We will be donating today and will email you when we have.

Thanks for telling everyone about these people who need our help. We donated part of our allowance to CARE, 'cos we love that they're helping kitties in need and saving them from death row.

Big hugs to all of you,
