A Patriotic 4th!

ollie...."Hey biped! It's the 4th of July. Why aren't we doing something patriotic today?

biped...."I think sleeping all day is very patriotic."

ollie....You otta be ashamed. Look at our friend Hobbes. He went camping. Camping is patriotic."

biped...."He's sitting on a picnic table, thats not camping nor is it that patriotic."

ollie...."Well I still think we should do something patriotic."

biped...."Ok, how about we adopt another soldier, would that be patriotic enough?"

ollie...."Ok, should it be a girl or a guy soldier?"

biped...."Let's let our bloggy friends choose. Maybe they'd like to adopt a soldier themselves."

ollie..."Ok, to adopt a soldier you go to Soldier's Angels and they'll give you a name of a real soldier who is in Irag or Afgahistan. You send him/her at least one present a month along with a letter (sometime emails) every week."

biped...."Wow, there are 384 soldiers waiting to be adopted, I guess it really is time for us to adopt another one. Ok bloggy friends, what's it going to be?"

Thank you for this post - I had no idea this existed! I wonder what a soldier would think if a kitty adopted him or her?

We agree! That IS a great idea! Wouldn't it be cool if all of the 384 waiting soldiers got adopted by blogosphere kitties? Way way cool!!

Our Girl Scout adopted a girl a couple of years ago. We sent her stuff and letters but never heard back from her. We did hear from another solider that she did get our packages and mail and appreciated them.

We were lucky with our first soldier. She was a married mom of 3 little girls, the oldest was seven. Her husband who had been the bread winner got colon cancer and to make ends meet and to pay for his medical expenses she joined the service. It really makes you think about the sacrifices that they make.

BTW, I got my next soldier. I tried for a girl but got a guy. He's in Kosovo.
