He's been swatted so many times by Annie that if a piece of paper falls off the table he thinks it's Annie and he flattens himself out and covers his ears with his paws. You'd think that after a 100 or so swats he'd get the point but oh no, he's going to pester her no matter what. And I guess why not. He's out alpha'd everycat in the house except for her.

How to cook a turkey Ozark style...

biped...."Here's a few of the recipes from the local news paper. You poor city folk probably don't have the luxury of getting such good directions."

Here is how you cook a turkey. First, you get the turkey at the Raymondville Grocery Store You tear the plastic off the turkey. You stuff the turkey with pig meat. Next , you put it in an oven that is 500 degrees hot. You cook the turkey for 200 minutes. While the turkey is cooking you read a book. Last you take the turkey out of the oven and cut it up. You eat turkey after you put salt and A1 sauce on it."

First, you get your turkey at the store. You shave the turkey's fur off. Next you turn the oven to 175 degrees. You put the turkey in the oven for 1 minute. If the turkey is still moving you cook it a little longer. Then you put the turkey in the middle of the table. Last, you cut it up and then you can eat it up."

Frist buy a cooler a turkey. Then you get Hwiian BBq sace. You put it in the cooler then you put in the sacer and mararati it in the sace with some ice. You let it maranat for 20-40 minits. Then take it out and cook it. You smoke it with skin less wood cips. Smoke it for 30-70 minits.
Then you have feast! Yum...

You skin a turkey. But if you wont you can by th turkeys. And cook the turkey. Four one huher and put salt and peeper. Put some sos on it for you can put some barbacue sos on the side when your done with the turkey you can eat it.

biped...."I miraculously or perhaps purrposely got an appointment with the good vet. No horse vet needed today and it appears that Major's eye is going to be fine. The scratch was inside the eyelid and not on the eye itself. Since we were there she got all her shots so she can spend the days out on the porch away from Annie. We're going to buy a package of that felway stuff to see if it improves Annie's and Ollie's mood today Major."

biped...."for now. How long it will last is a mystery. It took three visits by the repairman plus he spent saturday and sunday at home drawing diagrams of the heater. He even drew diagrams while he was fishing on Saturday. Following is Joplin's interpretation of the Heater Whisperer who laid on our floor for hours talking quietly to the heater."

Joplin...."The man was a contortionist. He was real nice but kinda dumb. He laid on the floor right in the way of our food dishes. At first Grandma said, "Don't bother the nice man. He's fixing our heater. Then after a while she said why don't you get in there and help him."

smudge...."I bet you quessed that Uncle didn't fix the heater. He only had time to fix one thing so he worked on the leaking tubs. He had to take the faucet off grandma'ss and there was a little slit in the tub where the water could leak. A little sealant handled that problem. Since we had it all apart we bought grandma a new faucet. Well I guess I'll get back to the bun warmer. Oh quess who moved in for the winter. Yep baby Joplin is making himself at home in the biped's bed. It may get kinda ugly about midnight when Annie comes to claim her spot in the bed."

Men in Trees

smudge....."We had excitement last week." We had men in our trees."

ollie....."Men in trees is very expensive. This post should be called Vanishing Temptations."

smudge...."But its for our own good. At least thats what the biped says."

biped....."Every winter we have at least one ice storm. Ice storms happen when the temperature hovers between 28 to 33 degrees. Any colder and you'd have either sleet or snow. The precipitation comes down as a liquid until it hits something like a tree or power line. Once it hits it immediately freezes. The power lines sag and the tree limbs get very heavy and they start breaking. The limbs hit the already stressed power lines and all of a sudden you're sitting in the dark. Here in the Ozarks the power can be out for a week to ten days."

biped...."And contrary to what certain kitties say, it doesn't cost any Temptations to get the trees near the power lines trimmed."

ollie...."That dead tree is no where near a power line. The man cut down the dead oak tree after you begged him."

smudge...."There goes my dead oak tree. When I was a widdle wild cat I used to run like the wind and climb to the top of dat tree."

ollie...."All gone. And then they started this really loud machine which ate whole trees."

smudge...."It was so embarrassing to hear the biped talking really sweet to the tree trimming guys."

ollie...."Then the biped asked the man to trim the trees so we could look out in the forest. We can see the momma deer now."

ollie...."Then they fed all the trees to the chopper machine and the truck filled up with oak and pine mulch."

smudge...."That's a whole tree that the man is putting in the machine. It took less than a minute to chop it up."

ollie...."Yeah and it took less than a minute before the biped started finigel'n how she was going to get all that mulch for her garden."

smudge...."Totally embarrassing. You shoulda seen her trying to sweet talk that guy."

smudge ...."And sure enough the man dumped a whole truck load of mulch in our yard."

smudge...."And just when we thought it was safe to show our faces we heard this conversation."

ollie...."Totally embarrassing."
biped...."Uh is that brush hog down the road part of your crew?"

man...."Yeah that's ours."

biped..."Could it possibly make a detour to our yard and widen our driveway?
(the brush hog is a machine that tears out and shreds large bushes and small to medium sized trees. They use it to knock a path to the power lines so their other equipment can get in. Almost every male Ozarkian has a brush hog and he will clear your land with it for $50.00 an hour. This isn't so bad except he wants a guarantee of 8 hours work to show up."

smudge...."That's a lot of Temptations."

biped...."Anyway the nice man said...."

man...."I'll see what I can do."

smudge...."And when da biped woke up the next morning the driveway was all cleaned up which is good."

ollie...."Good?"

smudge...."Yes, da man in da delivery truck can now find our house when da biped orders our Temptations."

ollie...."When? You mean if don't ya?"

ollie....."It's been a rough weekend. It rained a lot, it got cold. We got cold, we asked the biped to turn on the big heater, that meant she had to bang and clang and clean filters that were embarrassingly full of dog hair."

dumb & dumber...."Ahem, that would be cat hair."

ollie....."Dog ha.... and it got really quiet cuz the biped was saying those unprintable four letter words in rapid sucession."

D&D...."It appears that the cat hair has plugged up some drain part on the heater/air conditioner and water has collected and made a huge puddle and to make bad things worse...."

ollie....."the biped switched the air conditioner to heater, and after the normal smell of burning dog hair faded nothing happened."

D&D...."absolutely nothing. No warm air flowing thru the house, just a sickning buzzing sound followed by silence."

ollie...."then when things couldn't get any worse...."

ollie....."The red headed stepcat got out started stalking us."

biped..."The red headed step cat was actually very nice and gave Heesh a kiss before eating all his kibble and retiring to her room."

Ollie....."Thank goodness for all those blankies that we got from Peggy's Place. Between them and global warming we should be nice and cozy till God gets around to healing our heater. I'm sure that the biped was only joking when she said that it would take a month of Sunday's before she could afford a bag of Temptations again."

joplin...."and after I visited the nice man I got to go to sonic and get hot dogs and milk shake?"

joplin...."Well this time the carrier came out, and the biped said it's only $5.00, and I thought oh boy, I'm going to get upgraded and get a $5.00 burger but instead I got taken to the cheap cow vet and he stold my Hoo-Haws. After that I was soo sleepy that I can't remember if I got my hamburger or not."

biped...today...."Baby Joplin has recovered enough to climb up into the attic and gallop around. His feelings are still hurt but a dish of grandma's ice cream will most likely sooth them, and yes the cheapo biped did pay $5.00 for the hoo-haw-etomy. A long time ago she asked her vet tech friend what the difference was between the expensive vet and the cheapo spay clinic and she said, "The quality of the furniture in the lobby. Thinking about it she remembers that the cow vet doesn't even have furniture for the customers."

joplin...."Hi furriends! I hopes you had a good weekend. I want to show you my newest toy. I get lots of attention when I play with it."

joplin...."It has a nice flat top to sit on and when the biped's also playing with it, it tickles your belly. There's a little button on top and if you step on it, it makes a whrrrring noise."

joplin...."And the bestest part is those blue knobs on the front. If i bounce on top of the radio it wrecks the music and the biped has to get up to fix it. While she's up fixing the radio I bounce off those blue buttons. This makes the stiches all wonky. The biped is so blind that she can sew several pieces together before she realizes what I've done."

joplin...."Well I hope you'all have a real peaceful Sunday. The biped's going to try and BBQ some cheap steaks while I stay inside adjusting my new toy."

biped..."a week makes. A week ago saturday I invited my friend over to meet Joplin and to do some quilting out in the sewing barn. Joplin happily entertained us by chasing his little pink mousie, dropping by once in a while to mooch some of our crakers and salami."

Baby J...."Baby J here reporting on my first trip to something called a vet. I got put in da blue suit case, zipped up and took for a ride with grandma and the biped. We went into a smelly building and there were two huge dogs. One was really old and she told me to be very very scared.""

Baby J...."So I crawled back into da suit case and tried to look real pathetic. The big dogs disappeared but before they left da old one told me good luck and to hide if I got a chance."

Baby J...."Well there I was in my big blue suitcase and this nice lady came in to play with me. Then a HUGE man came in and tickled me. Wow that was scary. Wink wink."

Baby J...."I started giggling and da man told da biped that I was a boy."

Baby J...."While the man wasn't looking I started chewing on the rubber tubes that hung around his neck. Grandma told da biped dat we'd better hurry up and get outta there before they charged her for the doctors toy."

Baby J...."And the bestest part about going to the vet?! We went to Sonic drive-in and had corn dogs and milk shakes. "

After Sundays adoptathon, they either had 4 dogs and 3 cats left or 4 cats and 3 dogs. Either way it was a splendid sucess."

Joplin Adopt_a_thon....Tissue Alert

biped....."Today and Tomorrow is Joplin's adopt-a-thon for over 600 cats and dogs that were never reunited with their owners. The staff split the dogs and cats into two groups for Saturday and Sundays adoptions. There were 200 cats and kittens in todays group. By 4:00 pm EVERY single purrring CAT had been ADOPTED, and probably a few hissy ones too! That's right every single cat got a home. Also over 200 dogs were adopted today and the dog adoption continues till 8:00 pm."

The news reported that over 2,000 people showed up for the adoption event coming from as far away as Wisconsin, Gallup, New Mexico, Kansas, Illnois, basically from all over.

The animals were split into two groups for management sake and also to make sure all the animals got the best chance of being adopted. They deliberately held back some small dogs for tomorrows adoption because they draw in dog people better than the bigger dogs. That way a dog that wasn't adopted today has a second chance tomorrow when a new crowd of people come in for one of the "cute" dogs." From what I gather there's a little more than a 100 kitties available for tomorrows event, and about the same amount of dogs.

If tomorrow's crowd is as good as todays, and with cat adopters being turned away today I'm sure that it will be, All of the kitties should be on their way to their new homes by this time tomorrow."

Major...."Please purrr for baby Joplin. Da biped heard a kitten last night up by the road but couldn't find it. Tonight she saw it cross the drive way so she tried to catch it. It was really scared and hissy so she got a carrier and put a can of food in it."

major....."Baby Joplin went in the carrier and the biped managed to shut the door. It looks to be about five weeks old and is in very rough condition. Its very feral and hissy but that could be because of stress."

biped......"Two weeks ago a woman thought she heard a dog wimpering in a pile of rubble 15 miles from where the Joplin tornado had passed. After searching a while she gave up but the sounds kept nagging at her so last Saturday she went back and checked again. This time she started pulling the boards and stuff apart and once more she heard wimpering. This time nothing could stop her and she kept digging until she dug out ......

Biped....."Bently was dropped off at the shelter with just scrapes on his nose. Vets can't tell if his blindness is caused by old age or the tornado. If his owners don't claim him he'll be put up for adoption next week. Speaking of which, all unclaimed pets will go up for adoption next weekend with the provision that if their owner shows up at a later date that the owner will get their pet back."

biped...."As far as Bently's concerned, he has nothing to worry about. He's grouped with the handicapped pets and already has two women fighting over the right to adopt him."

A Happy Joplin Story....

smudge....."Da biped's been busy all week with something called facebook. Every once in a while her eyes would start leaking and we thought that it was a little melodramatic for someone who plays with a fake farm all day. Then we found out that she was following the story of a family who had their dog and two kitties stolen after the tornado. All week the Mom posted cute pictures of a fuzzy dog and cat in a carrier on all the facebook animal sites."

smudge....."As the week passed the story became clearer. After the tornado the people put the pets in two carriers and set them outside so they'd be safe. Their home was still standing but the roof was gone and everything was all wet. The grandpawents stayed at the house with the pets and the mom and kids went to stay some place a little safer for the night. Over night someone stole the fur babies."

smudge...." Most of the animals that were "rescued" were almost immediately turned over to the animal shelter, but not these babies. All week the Mom posted their pictures and nothing happened till 1:30 last night when a man posted a poor quality picture of a grey cat. He then said he had found another cat and a dog and the Mom started sending messages that the cat looked like hers. Then he posted the picture of the dog and the Mom said that she was sure it was her dog and that her daughter was missing her dog. The comments went on for about an hour with the guy saying they'd have to identify the collars before he'd let them go. He agreed to meet them Monday morning. All night the biped worried that the man would try to trick them but this afternoon the woman updated her facebook with a happy pic."

smudge...."The Furkids are all safe at home!"

biped....."When this disaster is over I really think that the lady that's in charge of animal rescue in Joplin should be appointed to head Fema. She has found a building large enough to house over 350 dogs and cats. She has repeatedly begged people who found stray animals to bring them to the shelter so that the owners only had one place to check. She has organized volenteers to care for the pets and started an Amazon.com wish list that had raised over $21,000.00 in pet food and supplies in five days. Today she started a drive to get Frontline for all her guests cuz she wants them compfy.

When she discovered that dogs will happily go home with any person that shows up and that cats just want to hide in the back of their cages she increased the security on the animals to make sure the right animals went home with the right people. By Sunday she and the volenteers had reunited 120 pets with their owners.

I quess the animals already knew she was a good person because the first "patron" turned itself in volentarily by flying in and perching on her car. It's name was JO JO and has since went home with it's mommy.
